Discover how Allods Online Artwork is born!

Some of you have already discovered our collection of new wallpapers, to spice up your desktop! To celebrate those great news, we will have a special report today!
We are going to present you one of the newest beautiful wallpapers designed by the Allods Online graphics team and along with it, the step-by-step process of work in creating it! So whether you are interested in arts and illustration yourself, or just want to take a look behind the scenes, go on reading and find out how this artwork was created!

Step 1 - Drawing sketches, creating a scene
Before a new wallpaper is being created, the design team meets for a little brainstoming session, where they collect ideas for a scene for the chosen theme. For this wallpaper, the chosen theme was the Elven ball. Some of the suggested settings were very positive, humorous and even romantic, whilst other suggestions showed the ball of the elves as an event full of intrigues, where the guests were building alliances and talking about their diabloic plans. For each idea a quick scribble was created, which was showing no more then the rough scene with a few lines. All the sketches were gathered together afterwards and were sent to the art director of the company.
Step 2 - Decide on a scene and create rough sketches
Based on the decision of upper management, a setting was selected, which was a mix between the most characteristic suggestions, merged to a whole new scenery.
It was decided, that in the foreground an important looking conversation should be shown, whilst in the background and in the huge ballroom the other guests are drinking, dancing and having fun. On this scribble and in the further process you could also see a hologam, with an elven dancer shown, but unfortunately we had to bid farewell to this little detail, because it was not adopted to the final version. As you can see, many things are changing during the process!

Step 3 - Refining the outlines and adding colour
In the picture above you can see, that some things changed again. This is normal during the developing process, so that the previous scribble is only left as a rough idea and composition for the final picture.
To show the luxury of the elven race, the designers decided, that the ball room has to be bigger. To save time and effort, some of the previous artworks and ingame models had been used as references and in addition some co workers had to pose as well for the artwork.

Step 4 - Almost at the final stage!
Like the elven dancer we mentioned before, an elf almost unnoticed, who was hiding behind the cutains, had to leave the party as well. At this stage, the colour and light is almost final and only need a bit of refinement later.

Step 5 - The final version
The more the designers were heading towards the final stage of the wallpaper, they realized that the atmosphere of intrigue and espionage almost vanished, and let the scenery more seem like a couple who is bored at a party and on the verge to head home. Therefore they decided to bring them more to the foreground and let them join a single elven lady, to bring a bit more tension.
